Introduction

The course is principally aimed at managers, supervisors or team leaders who are responsible for managing people but much of the information will also be useful for individuals who wanting to manage their own stress. By the end of this course you will have all the information and skills you need to start addressing the issue of stress within your organisation.

Content

Section 1: All About Stress
In this section you will learn all about stress, what it is, its causes and impact. This section also looks at the legal obligations of employers and employees and why organisations and individuals should begin tackling stress in the workplace. You will also gain some new skills for identifying stress in yourself, your staff or volunteers and for auditing stress levels within your organisation.

Section Two: Managing Workplace Stress
This section looks at how to manage stress in the workplace. You will learn about the Health and Safety Executive's Management Standards and how to reduce stress in your workplace through good management practice. You will learn about four approaches to managing stress: policies and procedures, problem solving, supporting people and ensuring their well-being. You will also learn some practical stress-busting techniques for reducing stress and how to provide stress awareness training for your staff and volunteers.

Section Three: The Manager’s Toolkit
Throughout the course there are user-friendly, downloadable tools, exercises and practices which will help you to put what you are learning into practice within your organisation. These tools are brought together in section three of the course. Altogether there are 33 tools which you can download and use to improve stress management within your organisation.
