Support needs of black, minority and ethnic communities, individuals, groups and businesses in Suffolk report:
Minority Ethnic Community Action Network (MECAN) Project report
The findings of the MECAN consultation were presented in a report on 10th December 2007 at Kesgrave Community Centre to the BME and faith groups and infrastructure Organisations (the partners of One Voice Suffolk) who were asked to take part in the consultation.
The aim is to develop the best strategy that will engage all the communities and provide a co-ordinated approach to all BME work in Suffolk. Earlier research has identified that there needs to be a coordinated approach to providing services and support to BME community groups and faith groups in Suffolk.
The report focuses on the responses from the participants on:
- the knowledge of the Suffolk COMPACT
- the knowledge of services provided by the groups and organisations
- the barriers that groups and organisations face when contacting and accessing information and support
- the support that is needed to develop new and existing services
- the support that is needed to develop volunteers and staff
- the communication methods used
- the viability of a Minority Ethnic Community Action Network
From this report a strategy will be developed which is needed for a co-ordinated approach to happen. This strategy will provide potential data about a network that will allow agencies to share information identify common actions and allow the BME communities and faith groups to be consulted and follow the progress of the consultations and service developments.
