Latest intelligence states there are some 3,500 registered charities operating within Suffolk. Although we are not sure of the exact figure, SAVO feels that there are probably the same number of not for profit and community organisations that are not registered charities, making a total of some 7,000 voluntary and community sector organisations within the county.
We are frequently asked to provide information on, or a database of, voluntary and community sector organisations operating in Suffolk. Unfortunately, although we have a members' database, we do not share this with third parties. Other infrastructure organisations also hold databases, and we are currently working on a project to work more closely together on sector intelligence.
We can send round information through our networks, on behalf of organisations or public sector agencies, but uphold the right to vet such information for relevance and content and may charge depending on the situation.
If you require detailed information about a particular charity, you can search GuideStar UK.
GuideStar UK is an independent charity set up in 2003 to provide, for the first time, a single, easily accessible source of detailed information about every charity and voluntary organisation in the UK. Performing a search is free, though they also provide a service to purchase parts of their database for single use, such as a mail-out or for consultation purposes.
The Charity Commission website also operates a register of charities.
More locally, Suffolk InfoLink is a directory of community information with details of thousands of local clubs, activities, organisations and services. Make sure your organisation and activities are listed on this site.
This service is also linked into onesuffolk which provides websites for almost two hundred community groups, voluntary organisations and parish councils.
